A very important characteristic of Shetland Sheep is their beautiful wool. This wool has a soft resilient texture which has developed over the centuries to protect the sheep from extreme weather conditions of their northern home.
Shetland wool is one of the finest and softest of any UK breed, yet strong and durable wool. Softness is a very individual feeling so I can tell only my own opion about this yarn. It is really one of the softest sheep wool I have tried to knit. It becomes even more soft after washing and wearing.
These yarns are perfect for textured cabled knits and multicoloured knits (Fair Isle knits). Also the Isles are well known for the traditional knitted lace shawls which are so fine, they will pass through a wedding ring.
Shetland DK is a traditional double knitting yarn suitable for all DK patterns and Shetaland Aran is a soft spun Aran weight yarn.
This wool is a delight to knit. You just need to pick up the most beautiful shade and enjoy your knitting!
