Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk is a Norwegian family owned wool spinning mill founded in 1898. It is one of Norway’s most long-established yarn producers. Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk is keenly interested in craft traditions, and everything that is made here is craftsmanship carried out with diligence and pride. Hillesvåg makes wool and yarn for quality-conscious customers at home and abroad. The exclusive Hillesvåg yarns are made out of Norwegian wool, and are handcrafted with love to bring further joy to knitters and wool enthusiasts all over the world. The factory is proud to be the only one that produces carded wool and yarn from Norsk Pelssau sheep breed. This is a cross between the Gotland sheep (which originates from the Swedish island of Gotland) and the Norwegian heritage breed Spælsau.

The company is faithful to its long traditions while at the same time managing to look to the future. With exciting launches of new yarn qualities, colors and knitting patterns, the company manages to capture both old and young knitters.

Fjære

Fjære sock yarn is a 2-thread carded yarn spun from Norwegian wool. To make the yarn extra durable, it is reinforced with nylon. Fjære sock yarn is very well suited for thin and durable socks and other garments that need extra strength, such as skirts, pants, sweaters, blankets, gloves and others. The garments knitted in Fjære will feel warm and airy on the body. The yarn is not superwash-treated. Hand wash is recommended.

Sol

Sol is a DK weight lambswool spun exclusively from the finest 28 micron lambswool fleece (28 microns), from a mix of Norwegian breeds. This means that only the finest fibers from Norwegian white sheep can be used in the production of Sol yarn. This yarn is very soft, has a great durability and pilling resistance. Sol combines well with Hillesvåg’s Tinde range, adding a white option which is useful for colourwork. Sol can also be used alone for classic projects, it is perfect for textured knits.

Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk has placed an increased environmental focus on the use of dyes in their production. Only GOTS-approved dyes are used for Sol yarn. GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) requires dyes to be biodegradable and non-toxic. The finished product cannot contain allergens or residues of dangerous chemicals. GOTS-approved dye is permitted in the organic production of yarn and textiles.

Tinde

Tinde is spun from the fleeces of the Norsk Pelssau breed. This is a cross between the Gotland sheep (which originates from the Swedish island of Gotland) and the Norwegian heritage breed Spælsau. The Norsk Pelsullgarn is a longwool, very similar to pure Gotland and with the same natural grey shade, but with a little more lustre. Dyeing the grey fibre produces a beautiful palette of rich melange colours. This yarn is very beautiful in colourwork and textured patterns.

As the fibre used in these yarns is naturally grey, there is no white in these ranges. Sol yarn from Hillesvåg is made of white lambswool and combines well with Tinde.

Troll

Troll is an Aran weight yarn suitable for thick sweaters, hats, mittens, blankets and other easy knits. It is quick and easy to work with even for the inexperienced knitter. Although Troll is thick 2-thread yarn, it is extremely airy and light. All Norwegian wool is known for its durability and long wearing. Troll is not an exception.
