Alpaca Lace is a thin yarn made from Peruvian Alpaca. This soft and durable yarn can be used as one strand for scarves, shawls and light sweaters as well as double stranded or with another yarn.

Alpaca is truly unique and sustainable fiber. The Alpaca, whose scientific name is Lama Pacos, is the most numerous of the four south american camelid species. With a population of approximately 4 million in Peru, representing 75% of the world’s alpacas. Due to the large difference in temperature and extreme altitudes, the alpaca has evolved a special, smooth, hollow fiber. Their wool is not only tremendously soft and light, but also insulates during cold temperatures, and becomes breathable in high heat. This unique combination makes a very comfortable product of high quality.

Containing no lanolin, alpaca fiber is naturally hypoallergenic. Most people who are sensitive to wool find that they can wear alpaca without the itching or irritation. Additional characteristics include stretch, water repellency, odor reduction and wrinkle-resistant.

Once reserved for royal families only, now this wonderful fibre can be available to all of us.

Note! It is essential to wash the knitted garment before wearing. Hand wash is recommended.
